Alum Bay (1998)
During 1998 & 1999 the London Maritime Archaeological Group (LoMAG) worked on an unknown site in Alum Bay, off the Isle of Wight at the western end of the Solent. During 1998, a M.A.D.U. Team visited the Solent to help with Maritime Projects being undertaken by the Hants. & Wight Trust for Marine Archaeology. During their visits, M.A.D.U. spent some time in Alum Bay, but probably hindered more than helped in LoMAG's attempts to complete their survey of the site.
In an attempt to keep out of the way however, M.A.D.U. did carry out some off site search work, to try and discover the full extent of the wreck, and to try & locate a mystery cannon reported to have been spotted to the south west. This mystery cannon was however not discovered, and despite M.A.D.U.'s intervention, LoMAG very successfully completed their survey of the Alum Bay site following further visits during 1999.
