Resurgam (1997)

Between 1st & 14th June 1997, a M.A.D.U. Team attended the SUBMAP Project off the coast at Rhyll in North Wales, to help with work being undertaken on the first steam powered submarine, which sunk while being towed in 1880. Submap was carried out as a joint project between the Archaeological Diving Unit (A.D.U.) using commercial divers, and the Nautical Archaeological Society (N.A.S.) with its sport divers,

The M.A.D.U. Team assisted with the survey of the submarine, and then drew up the survey results using Computerised Web Surveying Software. A schematic drawing of the results produced is shown below.

In addition to the surveying tasks, Bill Turner of M.A.D.U. produced a sketch of the submarine, a copy of which is shown below, and this sketch has been reproduced in Jane's Submarines, edited by Robert Hutchinson, and published by Harper Collins in 2001 (ISBN 0 00 710558 4).
